It is not everyday that a special member in our community is highlighted for the exceptional work she has dedicated her life to. Edith Gendron has been awarded the Public Citizen of the Year Award by the National Association of Social Workers, Florida Chapter. Those who know her in the community agree that she is one in a million. She has spent the past two decades helping to improve the quality of life for individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and their families.
She currently is the Chief of Operations at Alzheimer's & Dementia Resource Center where she develops programs targeting the intricate needs of caring for a person with Alzheimer's Disease and for their care partners. She runs numerous support groups in the community such as Micheal's Moments and Savvy Caregiver. Edith partners with other like minded individuals and provides a platform to share their resources for bettering the dementia community. Her and her team plan to help raise awareness to other local businesses so that they too can become dementia friendly locations. Go Edith!
But wait, she does more . . . the exceptional Edith is also the Brain Bank Program Manager at ADRC. The Florida Brain Bank research program and ADRC are here to help provide support to families to uncover a definitive diagnosis of whether their loved one truly had Alzheimer’s disease or whether it was something else. The program is dedicated to the coordination of brain tissue donations for critical scientific research that is aimed at ultimately curing Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias.
